As a marriage and couples counsellor, I have provided counselling in the Kelowna area for almost 22 years to:
My decision to become a marriage and couples counsellor is based on an interest in people and how good relationships support and nurture them. As well, this interest has led me to studying ways to reduce the pain, confusion and negativity that causes people so much grief and unhappiness.
When the relationships we have with those we love or care for go wrong we can easily become stressed, depressed, frustrated, angry and confused. The relationships with those we love are very important to us. I provide marriage and couples counselling to many people who struggle with relationship issues of one form or another. These may be issues with a boyfriend or spouse or issues with a father and teenage daughter or elderly parent or maybe even with a friend or co-worker.
I usually see couples together for couples counseling but I sometimes meet with partners individually. If one partner refuses to attend counseling, there is still value in one party coming in. I often meet with whole families or parts of families to facilitate more constructive problem solving and communication.
Often there are issues that just seem too sensitive to address oneself that can be talked about and resolved in counselling with a skilled marriage and couples counsellor trained specifically in relationship dynamics.
As a marriage and couples counselor, some of the more common situations I help people with:
- Blended family dynamics
- Affairs (emotional, physical, internet)
- Intimacy problems (lack of desire)
- Communication blockages
- Anxiety, depression, stress
- Mid life issues
- Separation & Divorce
- Work Place issues
- Parenting difficulties
